Animal and Euthanasia Room Entry Procedures","legacy_section_text":"<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>Ensure all entry room procedures are followed\u00a0to maintain the health status of the animals.\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-roman\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>Hang personal items such as lab coats, jackets, bags and hats outside the room.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Follow the designated personal protective equipment (<a class=\"gtip\" href=\"https:\/\/az.research.umich.edu\/animalcare\/glossary\/personal-protective-equipment-ppe\/\">PPE<\/a>) instructions listed on the room entry procedures sign posted on the outside of the door and\/or area entrance.\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: decimal\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>Ensure proper attire is worn (long pants\/skirt or equivalent leg covering and closed toed shoes).<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Euthanasia rooms require additional PPE over <a class=\"gtip\" href=\"https:\/\/az.research.umich.edu\/animalcare\/glossary\/dedicated-work-uniform-dwu\/\">DWU<\/a>.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Don gown before gloves. Animal Room Entry Order","legacy_section_text":"<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>Rodent Room Entry Order:\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-roman\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>Enter rooms, within the same workday,\u00a0as follows:\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: decimal\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>Germ-Free<\/li>\r\n \t<li><em>C. bovis<\/em> free<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Nude or SCID<\/li>\r\n \t<li><a class=\"gtip\" href=\"\/animalcare\/glossary\/specific-pathogen-free-spf\">SPF<\/a> clean room (<a class=\"gtip\" href=\"\/animalcare\/glossary\/green-or-clean-rooms\">Green<\/a>)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>SPF potentially contaminated (<a class=\"gtip\" href=\"\/animalcare\/glossary\/yellow-or-potentially-contaminated-rooms\">Yellow<\/a>)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>The following rooms are of equal health status and can be entered in any order between SPF potentially contaminated (Yellow) and conventional rooms:\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>SPF biocontainment<\/li>\r\n \t<li>SPF contaminated (<a class=\"gtip\" href=\"\/animalcare\/glossary\/red-or-contaminated-rooms\">Red<\/a>)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Quarantine<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Conventional<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>PPE in Rodent Rooms \u2013 <a class=\"gtip\" href=\"https:\/\/az.research.umich.edu\/animalcare\/glossary\/non-usda-regulated-species\/\">Non USDA-Regulated Species<\/a>\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: decimal\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>With a <a class=\"gtip\" href=\"https:\/\/az.research.umich.edu\/animalcare\/glossary\/laminar-flow-hood-lfh\/\">LFH<\/a> and microisolator caging:\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>DWUs and gloves, or<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Designated personal protective equipment (PPE) as listed on the room entry procedures sign<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Without a LFH and\/or microisolator caging AND when cages are being opened:\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>Designated personal protective equipment (PPE) as listed on the room entry procedures sign<\/li>\r\n \t<li>DWUs and gloves are acceptable when cages are not being opened.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>PPE in Rodent Rooms \u2013 <a class=\"gtip\" href=\"https:\/\/az.research.umich.edu\/animalcare\/glossary\/usda-regulated-species\/\">USDA-Regulated Species<\/a>\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: decimal\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>Designated personal protective equipment (PPE)\u00a0as listed on the room entry procedures sign<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Non-rodent Mammal Room Entry Order:\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-roman\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>Enter rabbit rooms AFTER guinea pig rooms within a workday.\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: decimal\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>All personnel change DWU if there is a need to return to a guinea pig room after entering a rabbit room.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Enter immunocompromised rabbit rooms BEFORE any other rabbit room within a workday.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Enter <a class=\"gtip\" href=\"\/animalcare\/glossary\/non-rodent-mammal\">non-rodent mammal<\/a> rooms (per species) in quarantine LAST within a workday.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ensure PPE is changed between all non-rodent mammal rooms.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Aquatic Frog Room Entry Order:\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-roman\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li><em>Xenopus tropicalis<\/em><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Clean <em>Hymenochirus<\/em> spp.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><em>Xenopus laevis<\/em><\/li>\r\n \t<li><em>Xenopus laevis<\/em> housed in USB<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Dirty\/Experimental <em>Hymenochirus<\/em> spp<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Enter chicken rooms AFTER rabbit rooms.\r\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-roman\" start=\"1\">\r\n \t<li>All personnel change DWU if there is a need to return to a rabbit room after entering a chicken room.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Alternate PPE is provided by the individual\u2019s department if personnel are unable to wear the PPE as required and if deemed to be at least as effective as the required equipment. Personnel are not able to conduct the work tasks in which PPE is deemed necessary if unable to wear required PPE or alternate PPE is not acceptable.
