    \r\n \t
  1. Blades must be free of rust, visible nicks, or other damage to the cutting edge and have no perceptible resistance that would prevent smooth operation, and<\/li>\r\n \t
  2. Blades must always be able to decapitate rapidly to ensure death with minimal pain and distress.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nIf the above criteria are not met, blades must not be used until serviced or replaced and confirmed to be in good working order.\r\n\r\nPIs are required to establish a mechanism (e.g., a service log or \u201cdate of last service\u201d tag) to document that the service\/replacement\/evaluation was conducted.\r\n\r\nBlades not in current use must be clearly marked (e.g., \u201cnot in use\u201d or \u201cdo not use\").","legacy_media_position":"","legacy_media_file":"","legacy_media_url":"","legacy_glossary_term":"","legacy_glossary_nids":"","legacy_resource":"","legacy_resource_nids":"","legacy_buttons":null},{"legacy_section_type":"heading","legacy_heading":"Compliance","legacy_subheading":"","legacy_section_text":"","legacy_media_position":"","legacy_media_file":"","legacy_media_url":"","legacy_glossary_term":"","legacy_glossary_nids":"","legacy_resource":"","legacy_resource_nids":"","legacy_buttons":null},{"legacy_section_type":"text_area","legacy_heading":"","legacy_subheading":"","legacy_section_text":"The provisions of this policy are under the direction and oversight of the U-M\u2019s IACUC.
