However, these individuals must still be apprised of certain obligations pertaining to responsible research conduct, occupational health and safety, and the humane treatment of animals used for research and instruction.\r\n\r\nThis Quick Reference Guide provides basic information about the use of animals in research and instruction at the University of Michigan, including how to work safely in and around animal facilities, personnel requirements for working with animals, how to report animal welfare concerns, and how to obtain veterinary care.\r\n\r\nThis document should be reviewed by all <a class=\"gtip\" href=\"\/animalcare\/glossary\/observers\">Observers<\/a> and <a class=\"gtip\" href=\"\/animalcare\/glossary\/short-term-personnel\">Short-Term Personnel<\/a>, as defined by the <a href=\"https:\/\/az.research.umich.edu\/animalcare\/policies\/policy-classification-and-expectations-personnel-involved-animal-activities\/\"><em>Policy on the Classification and Expectations of Personnel Involved with Animal Activities<\/em><\/a>.
