Carcass Disposal Procedures for Investigative Personnel

To establish acceptable methods of carcass disposal for investigative personnel.

    1. General Procedures

    1. Place small animal carcasses in an opaque plastic bag or glove of appropriate size.
    2. Seal bag or glove tightly
      1. Large animal carcasses must be placed in a plastic bag and then sealed close within a fiber drum.
        1. Fiber Drums, pre-labeled with a biohazard sticker, containing animal carcasses ranging in size from dog or larger, must be sealed close with tape.
    3. Investigative personnel should label bag, glove, or fiber drum with the following information:
      1. Date
      2. Principal Investigator (PI)
    4. Place bag, glove, or fiber drum in designated walk-in cooler or refrigerator.
      1. Contact ULAM Husbandry Supervisor for appropriate disposal locations.
